Arsenite to Arsenate Oxidation and Water Disinfection via Solar Heterogeneous Photocatalysis: A Kinetic and Statistical Approach

چکیده

Arsenic (As) poses a threat to human health. In 2014, more than 200 million people faced arsenic exposure through drinking water, as estimated by the World Health Organization. Additionally, it is that water with proper microbiological quality unavailable for 1 billion people. The present work analyzed solar heterogeneous photocatalytic (HP) process arsenite (AsIII) oxidation and coliform disinfection from real groundwater matrix employing two reactors, flat plate reactor (FPR) compound parabolic collector (CPC), without added hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). pseudo first-order reaction model fitted well As data. treatments FPR–HP + H2O2 CPC–HP yielded best rates, which were over 90%. These also exhibited highest rate constants, 6.7 × 10−3 min−1 6.8 min−1, respectively. removal rates via chemical precipitation reached 98.6% 98.7% these treatments. no coliforms detected at end of process. area per order (ACO) HP was on average 75% efficient photooxidation (PO) effects independent variables, addition, light irradiation statistically significant AsIII (p < 0.05).

A review of heterogeneous photocatalysis for water and surface disinfection.

Photo-excitation of certain semiconductors can lead to the production of reactive oxygen species that can inactivate microorganisms. The mechanisms involved are reviewed, along with two important applications. The first is the use of photocatalysis to enhance the solar disinfection of water. It is estimated that 750 million people do not have accessed to an improved source for drinking and many...

Arsenite oxidation and arsenate respiration by a new Thermus isolate.

A new microbial strain was isolated from an arsenic-rich terrestrial geothermal environment. The isolate, designated HR13, was identified as a Thermus species based on 16S rDNA phylogenetic relationships and close sequence similarity within the Thermus genus. Under aerobic conditions, Thermus HR13 was capable of rapidly oxidizing inorganic As(III) to As(V). As(III) was oxidized at a rate approx...

Oxidation of arsenite to arsenate by Alcaligenes faecalis.

Alcaligenes faecalis, resistant to the toxic effects of 0.01 M sodium arsenite, was isolated from raw sewage and shown to be capable of oxidizing arsenite to arsenate. When the organisms were grown in chemically defined medium, this conversion was due to the appearance at stationary phase of an intracellular, oxygen-sensitive, inducible enzyme and/or component of the electron transport system; ...

Kinetic Concepts of Heterogeneous Photocatalysis

TheABCs of empirical chemical kinetics are highlighted from the scratch. Aspects of dynamics regarding charge carrier trapping and recombination are essential part of this discussion. The effect of imposition of external constrains such as temperature of the reactivity solution, concentration of the subject compound, intensity and wavelength of light on photocatalytic degradation system is emph...
